School and Sports Charters

Chartering a Red Bus is an economical, easy, safe and eco-friendly way to move large groups of students to all their activities.

Our drivers are friendly and experienced at moving groups of active students.  We are proud of our safety record and our work to become more sustainable.  (You can see more about this in the Safety and Red Bus is Green sections of our website.  Red Bus is locally owned and has been part of Christchurch for over 100 years.  Our high quality vehicles are serviced regularly and cleaned daily.

The safety and comfort of our passengers is our highest priority.  Therefore, when we give a quote we allow for 10 standing passengers per bus.  On long trips or when transporting small children our quotes allow for all passengers to be seated.  Please advise us if you would like us to quote on a different basis.

Some helpful Things to Remember when booking your Red Bus Charter

What do we need to know when you are booking a bus?

  • Date of travel

  • Departure and pick-up times

  • Where you are travelling to and from

  • Number of adults

  • Number and age of students

  • Name of school and contact details (telephone, postal

  • Address, fax and email)

  • Does everyone needs to be seated

  • Do you have any special needs or requests

Once we have your information our Charter Team will send you out a quote within a day - (most likely a few hours).

You then need to check that the details are correct and accept the quote (by phone fax or email).

We then will send you a confirmation.  Use the confirmation number at the top right hand side of the form if you need to contact us about changes, cancellations or other enquiries.

Some helpful Things to Remember when booking your Red Bus Charter

  • Book Early
  • Off-Peak Charters are Cheaper
  • Don't forget about Cancellations
  • Booking more than one or two buses
  • Winter sports at Hagley Park
  • Soiling fee
  • Wheelchairs
  • Teacher Only days

Book Early

You will avoid disappointment.

Off-Peak Charters are Cheaper

During our peak times - week days from 7.30 - 9.00am and from 2.30pm - 6pm we have fewer charter buses available and travel times are longer due to traffic congestion this means we have to charge more.  If you book your charter buses outside our peak times we can apply our lowest times/rates.

Cancellations

If you have to cancel a bus please let us know as early as possible.

When bad weather or unforseen circumstances result in cancellation on the day please phone:

  • 03 379 4260 and press 4 for the Control Room

  • or 03 379 4268 after 8am.

Please don't forget to cancel - a cancellation fee of $60 per bus applies when a booked bus turns up and is not required - we hate doing this.

If you are booking more than one or two buses

Parking three or more buses together outside most schools can be difficult. In our experience it works better if we stagger the departure and arrival times.

Winter Sports at Hagley Park

Let us know whether the sport is at North Hagley or South Hagley Park. We are not allowed to drop off anywhere on Deans Avenue or Harper Avenue.

Soiling fee

Our buses are proud of their good looks and like to stay clean for everyone.

A soiling fee of $60 may be charged if bus needs to be specially cleaned after a charter.  This can be a problem after winter sports games - getting kids to bring a second pair of shoes and a bag for their sports shoes works very well.

Wheelchairs

Please let us know when you book if you require a bus with wheelchair access.

Teacher Only days

Please let us know of teacher only days well in advance so any alterations to manual trips and school bus morning and afternoon runs can be made.
