Day Trips

Day Trips – a fun, easy and low cost way to have a great day out.

Whether you are a visitor or a local, Red Bus is a great way to experience Christchurch, and to make it even easier we have developed three easy to follow Day Trips.   Part sightseeing, part discovery tour, they offer something for everyone.

  • All you need to do is choose the Day Trip you like
  • Print out the itinerary (including facts, history and a number of suggestions and offers to take advantage of along the way).
  • Buy a Day-Pass from any Red Bus driver or use your metro card
  • Then hop on and off any Red Bus as much as you like all day enjoying Christchurch.
All Day Trip plans start at the Bus Exchange

1.  Sun in Sumner (No. 3). Fancy a day at the beach, walking on the sand, swimming, eating ice creams, enjoying a relaxed beach-side township with quirky little shops and cafes – it’s all in Sumner and on the way there or back you can stop off as much as you like and see what Ferrymead and Redcliffs have to offer.

2.  Views and Vessels (No. 28).  Ride the Red Bus to the base of Mount Cavendish to take a trip up on the Gondola, enjoy the views and then continue on to Lyttelton Harbour.  Enjoy a bite or drinks in one of Lyttelton’s many eclectic cafes and bars.  Go on a harbour cruise to see the dolphins or surrounding bays.

3. Shopping Spectacular (Metrostar). From the Metro Star service you can visit three of the best shopping centres in Christchurch: Westfields, Merivale and The Palms.  Then head into town and see what’s on offer in High Street and South of Lichfield (SOL).  You can also use the Metrostar  to swim at QEII or visit New Brighton Beach.
