The After Midnight Express is safe, low-cost transport for those enjoying a late night out in Christchurch. 

Timetable

This special Red Bus service leaves the central city for the suburbs on Saturday and Sunday mornings on the hour from 1.00am until 4.00am.

Public Holidays

The After Midnight Express runs on the Saturday and Sunday mornings of all Public Holiday weekend except:

It does not run on:

  • the morning of Anzac Day (if this is a Saturday or a Sunday)
  • Easter Weekend
  • the morning following Christmas Day (if this is a Saturday or a Sunday)

Fares

The After Midnight Express will cost you just $6.00 per trip, regardless of how far you travel.

Bus Stops

After Midnight Express buses leave Oxford Terrace at 1am, 2am, 3am and 4am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. They then pick up at Lichfield Street or Manchester Street a few minutes later.  Get on whichever bus comes to your stop.  The bus driver will transfer you to the bus going your way.

There are four after midnight express services:
1am, 2am, 3am, and 4am. 

Departs: Oxford Terrace (between Hereford and Worcester Streets)

  

 

Why use the after midnight express?

  • Stress-free travel - no worries about drinking and driving; you can enjoy a late night movie, dinner or a big night in town and know you'll get home safely
  • Low-cost travel - it costs $6 cash to ride any distance along any of the after midnight express routes - that's considerably less than some taxi fares
  • Convenient travel - you can catch a ride anywhere along the route and disembark anywhere along the route.  Drivers may be able to drop you closer to home if time permits, just ask.
  • Safe travel - the after midnight express is safe for teenagers, adults, and a great idea for shift workers heading into or out of town after midnight.
